Found a Stray?
Texas Animal Guardians is not a shelter and does not have a facility. We are a foster-based rescue group located primarily in the New Braunfels, Texas area. Our group removes at risk dogs and cats from high intake shelters in our area. Therefore, we can not take in a stray. If you have found a stray please contact your local animal care shelter/s for advice.
Here are a few basic steps to help reunite the pet with its family.
- Bring the dog/cat to a veterinarian’s office and ask them to scan for a chip.
- Next, take a photo of the dog/cat and post flyers in the area where the dog/cat was found, not in your own neighborhood. Most dogs/cats will stay relatively close to their home base or where their person was last with them. So posting flyers in the area you found the dog or cat is helpful.
- Contact your local shelter and report the pet as found, if there is a chip number provide them with this information as well.
- Next, go online and submit a found report to online lost/found sources such as LostFoundPets, Pets911, or PawBoost.
- Please remember that if you bring the animal home keep it separated from your other pets, particularly if your personal pets are not current with their vaccines.
